| bieber gets a new toy // wednesday, 21 july 2010 // |

what do you do when you're the biggest teen name on the planet? you get a lamborghini. that's what justin bieber's done. he was spotted today in LA driving around with his tour buddy sean kingston in a white lamborghini while getting a bit of frozen yoghurt. earlier in the year, bieber's mate p diddy said that for his 16th birthday, he'd given bieber his white lamborghini. bieber fobbed it off as a joke - but it appears that it may be correct and old puff has come true to his word. bieber acquired his dirvers licence earlier in the year and already has a car which was gifted to him by usher - a nice-looking range rover. you can check out all of the LA pics here.
it's all nice to get gifts - but c'mon, he's 16, has a number one album in x amount of countries, is currently doing a 40-date sold out US tour.. he must have some $$. what will be his first big purchase? tonight bieber plays the sold out NOKIA theatre in LA. other news in the week for him is that his video of "BABY" became the most watched youtube video of all time, overtaking lady gaga's bad romance. he also talked on twitter about some studio time in LA with dr dre and that they'd thrown together some beats. should be interesting to hear how they turned out. why wouldn't any half-decent musician, either current or has-been jump on this cash cow? there's also talk of a justin bieber comic book coming out.
so today, lindsay lo-hesbian presented at the court house to begin her custodial sentence. i noticed how she's all dolled up. that won't last long. she'll soon have visitors smuggling crack in to her while she's getting it on with all of the other prisoners. you know it'll happen. looking at the picture of her and her lawyer above, how do you expect a lawyer to win anything for you when they're dressed like that? that's the most out there colour scheme i've ever seen. well maybe not ever, back in the 80's, the happy pants used to look similar. they always said that LA courts were a bit of a circus. picture proves the point.

it's been a while.. // sunday, 11 july 2010 // |

it's been a long time between drinks! almost 2 months in fact.. part of it due to slackness, the other due to the fact that i've been working, planning holidays - all that kinda hard stuff. the entertainment world never sleeps.. and there's been lots happening which i haven't been reporting in that time.
most recently though, we're going through that period where stars are losing the plot. there's been lindsay lo-hesbian who's facing jail, but is now reportedly going to appeal her sentence. kind of delaying the inevitable. she's just gonna have to man up and do the hard yards - it's all a result of her own trainwreck!
speaking of trainwrecks.. mel gibson's skipped the slower trains and jumped on the express! i mean honestly, what is he thinking? first he hits up the jews, drinks a bit too much and now he's hitting up his mrs. and throwing around that dreaded "N" word. he's gonna have some explaining today. already today, his talent agency dropped him because of his outburst. this could spell the end for mel.
in bieber news today, a topic got trending on twitter called "omaha mall" which referred to an earlier video which was uploaded by justin bieber's dj - @djtayjames and featured biebs, kenny hamilton and ryan good in a van on the way to a public appearance, where they improvised a bit of a rap about the omaha mall. following the popularity, they produced a song called "omaha mall" which you can hear here. not bad considering it was thrown together. it's gone viral amongst bieber fans and now @alfredoflores, the maker of many bieber videos has said there'll be an official music video released. people in omaha are going nuts over it.
bieber's video of "BABY" is about to overtake lady gaga's "BAD ROMANCE" as the most watched video ever on youtube. in the next few days, people predict bieber's BABY will reach the 250 million view mark. insanity! that being said, BAD ROMANCE has been on youtube for 7 months, whereas bieber's BABY has been on youtube for 4 months.

a big week for young talent on the internet // saturday, 15 may 2010 // |

if there's ever been a week when internet-made celebrities have had the greatest success, it's been this week. it's shown the world how effective the internet can be for young musicians who are trying to be discovered. if you've not heard of "greyson chance" by now (video below) you must have been living under a rock. he's the guy who is 12 years old and sung a cover of lady gaga's paparazzi at a talent quest and the video ended up on youtube. basically, he got discovered by lady gaga herself along with ellen degeneres and within 48 hours or so, his video on youtube had 12 million views. absolutely incredible. so greyson gets flown to the ellen show wher he performed his rendition of paparazzi. it's absolutely awesome - he's got a unique voice and creative ability. lady gaga also spoke with him on the phone via the ellen show. he's probably going to be big news! the only thing is, he has the justin bieber head shake going on. is it a mimic or does he have some sort of strange tic? nevertheless, check out the video below. you can find his twitter here (@greysonchance), his youtube channel here and an information page about him here. it's proof that if you've got raw talent and you put yourself out there, you can become an overnight sensation. the power of the internet!
but, he's not the only one. then there's cody simpson, who we've talked about before. the young bloke from the gold coast, australia has been making some waves internationally after he was aired on an ABC tv show a while back. well, today on his twitter, he announced that he's been signed by atlantic records who are known for their big names like metallica, TI, sean paul, bloc party and many, many more. it's a step to the big time. the courier mail posted an article about him this week and the fact his family are moving to LA to help him reach his dream. he's leaving behind his best friend in QLD, mckenzie comer who wrote a song for him called "the last goodbye" which was the most-watched australian video on youtube this week - you can check it out here. cody's due to release an album sometime soon - with a song named summer time which a preview was shown on youtube recently and on june 1st, his single "iYiYi" featuring flo rida will be released. big things on the cards for him - australia wishes him all the best!
on the local front, bobby andonov has been singing up a storm on australia's got talent. he sung "hallelujah" on the first week and in the semi's he broke out kanye west's heartless. the judges described him as a superstar and said he should be signed right now. he's a 15 year old who has appeared in different eurovision contests and has been receiving voice training for the past few years. you can check out his "heartless" performance here. he's one to keep an eye on and will no doubt have much success.
justin bieber, canada's gift to the pop music world has continued his success this week, but seems to be copping more of a caining by the media each week. he was seen out with miley cyrus this week and everyone started rumours they were dating. though, she's probably had other things on her mind after TMZ.com posted a video of her lap dancing with a 44 year old gay man. the disney star had to go into damage control. bieber appeared on a taping of the ellen show yesterday and ellen asked him about miley cyrus - he said they're just friends and were "hanging out." you can see a preview of the show which will air sometime this week. ellen also tried to cut off some of his trademark hair which he responded by saying "hey! hey!" and backing away. he also recently appeared on oprah, having an interview along with his mum and scooter braun. he performed "BABY" and also helped some little girls achieve their dreams after their dad who is at war in iraq was unable to take them to one of his concerts. you can watch the full interview and performance here. bieber is currently in san diego and will be performing tonight with usher at a concert. he took some time to hit up an amusement park and got up close and friendly with some of the whales.
apologies for the long break between updates.

fictional character crime-fighters // tuesday, 4 may 2010 // |

it's tough work being a criminal these days. you never know when you're going to be caught by a real-life super hero. or should i say.. a human dressed as one? news came out of adelaide, australia yesterday that a man in a comic shop dressed as spiderman had apprehended a shoplifter. what an absolute legend. the link contains pictures and video. how much would you feel like a fool if you were trying to steal something and a dude dressed up in a costume catches you? bet the guy in the store had a few beers during a comic-reading session that night.
then, today, news breaks that johnny depp prevented a robbery in los angeles. he was with one of his friends when some crack-fuelled robber came along with a broken bottle and johnny depp stepped up and told him to back off. the robber then said, "i ain't stealing from captain jack." then, according to the report, johnny depp gave him some money and told him to straighten his life out. what a legend. that's the sort of stuff movies are made of. oh..
so.. ordinary humans. maybe it's time to don the costume and go and fight crime? or maybe all of these super heroes have just seen kick ass recently and thoroughly liked it.

bieber success continues // tuesday, 4 may 2010 // |

the worldwide bieber fever wave continues. you may have thought he'd be around for a blinking second and then disappear - but you're wrong! it appears "bieber fever" just keeps infecting people all over the world. this time round, it was one of the chicago white sox players. bieber is in chicago for his appearance on the oprah show on may 11th, though it is being taped tomorrow. after hitting up a rehearsal, bieber told everyone his twitter account that he'd be throwing the ceremonial pitch at the chicago white sox game last night - which is exactly what he did. chicago infielder mark teahen took to his twitter saying how excited he was that bieber was at the stadium. that's pretty crazy. you can check out the news from the game and see justin's pitch here. it wasn't the best, curving to the left, but he seemed to enjoy himself. he later said on twitter that he's canadian and should stick to hockey. weird thing though - attends one game - and happens to get a foul ball. that's something that the average baseball fan who attends every single game might never get. what did bieber do? he gave it to a fan and went back to living his celebrity life.
since bieber fever struck australia, lots of radio stations have been talking about the hysteria he created and trying to justify his existence by letting everyone know who he is - because in reality, no one in australia really knew who he was unless you followed US popular music. sam, a DJ / announcer from 92.9 in perth came up with the idea of creating a video clip to the theme of "BABY" which he has called "MATURE AGE BIEBER" and appeals to all of the mothers of bieber's fans to flock to him for a good time. you can check out the hilarious video here.
i said i was going to report on the white house correspondents dinner - but there wasn't much to say about it. you can read about it here. obama got up and told some jokes which were remotely funny - and apart from that, it seemed as though everyone was there for the pre-dinner or after-dinner parties. below are pictures of bieber with his mum, on the red carpet and with some dude. bieber's got a busy week lined up with another appearance on the ellen show in the near future and his US / canadian tour starting shortly. the hype around this guy indicates he's not going to be fading off into the distance anytime soon. he's here to stay.

white house correspondent's dinner // saturday, 1 may 2010 // |

the white house correspondent's association dinner is being held tonight (may 1st) at the hilton in washington dc. it's a who's who of hollywood stars pretty much - and is an invite-only event. you can check out the full guest list here. most notably, betty white will be attending who's our favourite grandmother. you might remember her from the golden girls or more recently, that classic superbowl snickers ad. she's a funny one - and is set to be hosting SNL on may 8th which everyone is looking forward to. other stars making an appearance include justin bieber (who seems to be becoming a favourite of the first family), chace crawford, steven spielberg, venus williams, morgan freeman and jon bon jovi. there's many, many more. the dinner will be hosted by jay leno.
bieb's was quoted during the week saying he wouldn't mind dating an older woman under 40.. maybe he'll bump the age up a bit and hook up with betty white? haha.
this weekend sees the TV week logie awards on tomorrow night - the night of nights for australian television. we'll have an update of all the happened as soon as it happens.
a big week for conert announcements - metallica announced a 2010 australian tour in october / november which looks to be a HUGE event. the band, who formed in 1981 have been one of the biggest heavy metal bands of the past few decades and will no doubt sell out arena's all around the country. they're heading to brisbane, perth, adelaide, melbourne and sydney - which is welcome relief after earlier thoughts they might only visit the major centres. tickets go on sale on may 13th around the country at 9am in your local time and tickets are available through ticketek. a ticketek member presale begins on may 11th at 12 noon, so if you're not already a member, sign up now to get tickets first. there's a low ticket limit of 4 per person.
powderfinger's farewell tour has sold out in minutes to many venues around the country after tickets went on sale yesterday. they're playing at smaller venues, with some having multiple shows - but looking today, most tickets are already gone. they're touring with jet and the vines in september and october after recently announcing that they're splitting on good terms.

MIA's ranga-hating video // wednesday, 28 april 2010 // |

M.I.A have created a faeces storm over the past day after they released their new "born free" video. the video was promptly banned from youtube as it contains extreme violence. the song is utter junk - not worth listening to. though, if you can stomach kids being shot in the head, the clip is worth seeing to see what the hype is about.
the clip goes for 9 minutes and is a mini-documentary/film with extreme violence. it focusses on an americanised solider-group who go around the city rounding up red heads and putting them on a bus. during the clip, soliders enter a block of flats where a fat naked couple are having sex and they beat them senseless with nightsticks. later, they locate a red-headed guy they were looking for and march him out to a bus full of other redheads. they drive the redheads out of town to a location in the desert where dogs are waiting to chase after them. the rangas are told to run through a minefield and to entice them to do so, a small orange-haired child is shot in the head at point-blank range by a soldier with a beretta. the redheads begin running through the mine field and an action scene commences, with many of them being blown into pieces.
i've included some screen shots below. you can check out a full review and analysis of the video here. does it overstep the mark? i must admit, it was quite disturbing seeing the child shot in the head - but at the same time, shock and awe tactics in musical clips seems to be the current trend - ever since lady gaga's telephone vid. it seems to sell. it's the age-old adage of "any publicity is good publicity." whatever you do, don't get excited about the song - you
ll hate it.

is bieber fever becoming dangerous? // wednesday, 28 april 2010 // |

the last couple of days have been a bit of a crazy one in the southern hemisphere for justin bieber. one has got to ask "how far is too far?" it seems no one needs to ask this question more than fans with "bieber fever." we've seen the chaos which he created in sydney in the last couple of days and now, he's done a whirlwind 24-hour stopover in new zealand and created more mayhem there. though, why are the girls going so nuts for him down under? he's played for over 70,000 people earlier this year in houston, texas and has had MUCH MUCH bigger public performances in the US and canada. there hasn't been a need for overly extensive security or the protection from glass.
last night, justin arrived at auckland airport in new zealand and some crazy fan went and stole justin bieber's hat, while other fans knocked his mother to the ground. he took to his twitter to show his disapointment, telling fans to keep safe. when is enough enough? he had police surrounding him as he walked through the airport - and still his hat got stolen. luckily though, the hat got returned without justin being held at ransom. the girls said he could have it back if he met them and hugged them - thankfully he said that wasn't going to work and somehow the hat got back to justin's management. he took to his twitter again to say he doesn't give in to ransoms and in an interviewed, labelled the girls thiefs and said it's his property. why would fans go to such lengths? surely they will soon realise that the more danger he's put in, the further away he's going to be from them. crazy, crazy teenage girls.
on a brighter note, justin and his security team, manager and fellow musician dan kanter took to bungy jumping off the auckland bridge today (photos above.) he posted a video on twitter of the reverse jump - see left hand sidebar. here's some pictures taken at the bungy site. he was even lucky enough to get an all blacks jersey with his own name on the back. awesome! justin now heads to paris before going back to the US for his oprah appearance in may.
while in australia, he did a one-of-a-kind interview with fans - @JBsource on twitter were lucky enough to go to his hotel and ask him questions from fans and all about his australian visit. you can check out the video here. seems very down to earth and in a comfort zone, not seen in other media interviews.

justin bieber concert chaos! // monday, 26 april 2010 // |

what a crazy day in bieberland! i haven't done any updates lately due to the ANZAC long weekend. justin bieber touched down in australia the other day to a crazy welcome. hundreds if not over a thousand fans screamed as he was rushed through the airport by his security to a waiting vehicle while a pack of paparazzi stalked him. he's been hot property since landing in australia - i'm not sure if i agree with the reception he's been given. he's going to turn into one of those entertainers that has to hide in his hotel rooms wherever he goes if his fans don't start settling down. since coming to australia, he's hit up whale beach in sydney which is best known for the filming of home & away - but even there he got stalked and the papz started taking shirtless photos of him and posting them on the internet. i mean really, give the guy a break!
he's since been seen at taronga park zoo (picture above) where i'm guessing he had a school lesson, as his teacher was there with him. he's been spotted out having lunch in sydney also and suddenly, he's been making the news everywhere here - so no doubt, those who haven't heard of him now will have. "my worlds" a compilation of his first and second album was released in australia on the day of his arrival and has since gone to number 4 on the iTunes album charts and remains at number 1 on the billboard top 200 - which is the 3rd week he's been at that spot (non-consecutive). he's announced that he will be appearing on the oprah winfrey show on may 13th.
the biggest event though occurred today - his free concert which was to be performed in sydney's circular quay international ferry terminal - but over 7000 screaming young girls turned up and had camped out since yesterday. it's safe to say that the channel 7 sunrirse team underestimated his popularity in australia and as a result, people began getting crushed and taken to hospital and fans ignore police requests to settle down. it resulted in the show being cancelled. this outraged fans who had travelled from as far away as perth to see the performance. not surprisingly though, some parents were nowhere to be seen and police said they should take responsibility. word spread that he'd probably still perform and so thousands of girls moved to the channel 7 sunrise HQ where he performed one song - "baby." you can see the performance in HQ here. they screamed the full 3 hours of the show making the news funny - as you could hear the anchor and just loud screaming in the background. riot police had to be called in to control the crowd and accusations began flowing that sunrise hadn't organised the show well enough. i don't think anyone could have predicted the hype. bieber confirmed he will visit australia again for a tour and hinted on his twitter page that he'll definitely be visiting melbourne next time round. so.. bieber fever has hit - and you can see an interview with justin and his mum on channel 7's today tonight this evening. he's taking the world by storm (well, at least the young girls anyway.) bieber leaves australia tomorrow and will possibly head back sometime after his US / canadian tour.
bieber's surprise fame in australia made experienced television presenters marvel at the attention he was getting and many who have been around when pink, destinys child, lily allen and other big names have performed have said they'd never seen such a bunch of crazy fans and hype surrounding a performance. he's been compared to the beatles in many news articles - a bit of a big call at such an early stage - but he could be heading in that direction.

iphone 4G lost and found // wednesday, 21 april 2010 // |

apparently i'm a bit slow on the uptake on this one. news broke of it yesterday - that a person which was trusted with apple's 4G iphone prototype had lost it in a californian pub. the iphone happened to end up in the hands of gizmodo who have done a full review on it's features. to me, it all seems a bit unlikely - employee has an iphone, which is top secret, then loses it and it happens to end up in the hands of one of the larger technology-based reporting websites? coincidence?
i've never owned an iphone, mainly due to being locked into a 24 month contract. though, i am intrigued about what the newest installment will bring. apple has released a new generation iphone at the beginning of every summer and no doubt, finding out what the next one is all about would be like stumbling onto a gold mine. i'm sure gizmodo aren't complaining about their "find." the pictures above are the new "4G" prototype compared with it's predecessor, the 3GS. i know everyone raves about the iphone, but the "new look" seems to be a backwards step in my opinion? back to the old, plain-looking brick? the major new features reported are the inclusion of a larger battery, an improved camera lense (possibly HD), more memory, a crisper, higher-definition screen and metallic, rather than plastic parts. if this was a "prototype" and this was a "loss" of it, chances are the phone will be changed dramatically from what we now know. it's unlikely that it will be the final release. it's worth reading the gizmodo review if you are an iphone nut. no doubt, the wave of success of apple will continue to boom no matter what they produce next as their fans stay loyal.
oh, back to the story - gary powell, the bloke who "lost" the phone is facing the sack and the finder claims to have offered it back to apple. saga, coincidence or publicity stunt? you be the judge.

justin bieber in japan // wednesday, 21 april 2010 // |

i'm sure you'll all be excited to know that justin bieber has arrived in japan. he's on a whirlwind promotional tour of japan, australia and new zealand. he reported on twitter that he'd had a rough 18 hour flight from toronto to japan, but had slept for most of it. pretty lucky to dodge the ash cloud. since arriving in japan, he's been getting a bit of a hero's welcome. i can't help but notice in the above picture though, he even appears to be a little asian? maybe he'd just woken up - who knows. since arriving in japan, he's constantly tweeted about how awesome the country is and even posted a video of a history lesson in japan. it includes a swan. justin is busy with radio and television interviews in japan and will then head to australia on the 23rd of april, staying for a couple of days before heading to new zealand. he tweeted today about wanting to play rugby with the "all blacks." i wonder if he knows they're all huge maori men who smash people? something tells me his frame couldn't handle it.
bieber received his 2,000,000th follower on twitter the other day, which is no small feat. news also broke today via billboard.com that soulja boy and justin bieber have collaborated on a song called "rich girl" which will be on soulja boy's upcoming album once all the necessary approval and paperwork gets authorised.
bieber is performing at the "overseas international ferry terminal" at circular quay in sydney on monday 26th april 2010. it's his only public performance in australia. you can find all of the details here.

kim kardashian in sydney // monday, 19 april 2010 // |

ladies, lock up your husbands, because kim kardashian is in australia. kardashian landed in sydney on saturday and has been spotted leaving her sydney hotel - you can check out pictures of her here and here. she's in australia as a part of an optus campaign to promote their exclusive new technology from motorola - the motorola blur technology. basically, it's supposed to be the best networking mobile device around, which acts as a "widget" and updates every 10 seconds, without you having to log into various networking sites like facebook, twitter etc. who better to have promote your product than one of the most well-connected women in the world. with over 3,400,000 followers on twitter, kardashian is known as one of the biggest socialites in hollywood.
though, there's been some anger over the last couple of days directed at kardashian after she posted this picture on twitter of her holding a cat during a photoshoot. don't know what she's doing with it - but she's got that "eww, get it away from me" look on her face. in all honesty, i didn't even notice the cat at first. you'll see why if you see the pic. the cat probably doesn't care either.. needless to say, i think with that single act alone, kardashian can safely be crossed off the list of people likely to represent those nutjobs at PETA.
she heads to melbourne in the coming days to promote the BLUR technology and will do some sightseeing, before heading out of the country. it's her first visit to australia. after she leaves, justin bieber is set to touch down in sydney on his "my worlds" promotional tour.

juno awards 2010 // monday, 19 april 2010 // |

the 2010 juno awards are over for another year. the best of canada's musical talent gathered together in st. johns in newfoundland for the awards show. most of us will probably only recognise a few names in attendance - including michael buble, justin bieber, billy talent and drake. some of you probably don't even know who drake is - he's a new talent on the canadian scene who has sold a load of records. he's a rapper - and also made a quick appearance in justin bieber's baby video.
the awards show had it's hiccups, as a lot of the performers struggled to get to the event due to heavy fog which grounded incoming flights. there were more problems after the show ended, as the iceland ash cloud closed airports and performers rushed to get on the last flights out of st. johns. michael buble was the star of the show, taking away 4 awards, including one or two which justin bieber was tipped to win. drake took out the "best new artist" and billy talent took out the "best rock album" award. justin bieber went home empty-handed to the surprise of the country. many of the performers and artists mentioned him in their speeches though, showing their respect to his new-found success. you can check out a full list of the winners here.
st. john's is known for being a party town where drinking is the done thing. apparently, everyone at the junos is usually known to have a few drinks during the show and often it's littered with drunken speeches. it's a shame we didn't see this earlier, but someone came up with a pretty hilarious juno's drinking game to get you through the awards show (if it was on TV in your country). worth a read even though the event has already finished. the biggest performance of the night was an accoustic version of justin bieber's "baby" which featured drake rapping the part usually sung by ludacris. he did however, through in some different lines, with one mentioning "being in hotel rooms, getting mc hammered." you can check out the full performance here.
below are some of the pictures from the red carpet. that's it for another year - when we might hear again about some of the talent coming out of canada.

juno awards 2010 - this weekend // sat, 17 april 2010 // |

the biggest event in world music this weekend are the juno awards in canada. the show is being held at the mile one center in st. johns, tomorrow - sunday 18th april. this years show has a star-studded line-up with performances by michael buble, justin bieber, drake and billy talent. the event will be broadcast on CTV (tv canada) but at this point in time is not scheduled to be shown on australian free-to-air or pay tv. you can check out the CTV junos website for info about performers, schedules etc.
there's talk from industry insiders that this years awards will be dominated by first-timers. drake and bieber have been making a vast impact on the music world in the past year and are set to take home awards in categories which they've been nominated in. bieber has been nominated for three awards including "album of the year," "best new artist," and "pop album of the year." buble has featured in a number of nomination categories, along with drake and billy talent. billy talent however are having difficulty getting to the awards, as flights have been delayed due to bad weather. hopefully they can make it in time! other artists nominated are mainly local, with some recognisable names in the "international album of the year" category - such as the black eyed peas, kings of leon, britney spears, taylor swift and susan boyle. you can see the entire list of nominees here.
we'll have the news of what happened after the shows taken place!

glastonbury festival 2010 headliners announced // sat, 17 april 2010 // |

the 2010 glastonbury festival line-up has been announced. if you're not sure of what the glastonbury festival is, it's a massive, green field music gathering which attracts near on 180,000 people each year in glastonbury england. it's usually shortened to "glastonbury" or "glasto" and has seen some of the all-time greatest musical artists perform at it. tickets are always sold quickly - with this years already sold out and selling in under 1 day. the festival spreads over a number of days - this year it's going to be from wednesday june 23rd to sunday june 27th. last years performers included lady gaga, the prodigy, pendulum, bloc party and franz ferninand. in the 1990's, significant downpours of rain resulted in the fields being turned into a boggy marsh and many photos surfaced of people rolling around in the mud. the festival is "live in" with most people camping in adjacent fields.
this years line-up brings some big names. headlining will be snoop dogg, muse and stevie wonder. along with them, there'll be U2, dizzee rascal, groove armada, coheed & cambria, scissor sisters, slash, faithless, jack johnson, MGMT, pet shop boys, temper trap and fatboy slim. there's set to be over 200 other performers - you can see the entire line-up at the glastonbury festival website. oh to be closer to the action! hopefully, the addition of snoop dogg will provide some diversity - as in the past, rappers haven't been very sought after at the event. there was controversy over jay-z performing in 2008 - and he described it as if they were "invading a country." he hit out at fans telling them to embrace what was new. hopefully, people are more open to snoop dogg and the mark he has left on the music industry.

metallica heading down under in november! // saturday, 10 april 2010 // |

what an exciting time for australian music fans! there hasn't been an official announcement yet, but lars ulrich let slip in an interview the other day that australia is set to be one of metallica's last destinations on the world magnetic tour which metallica have been doing for the last couple of years. according to lars, they'll be heading to australia in november 2010 and then to new zealand after that, before they take a break. with no official announcement, it's not confirmed - but it's highly likely that they've got it planned. it'll be a HUGE music event for australian metallica fans - who haven't seen them for a few years now after they did some big day out dates.
some fun facts - metallica are the fourth highest selling music group in the world having sold 52.2 million albums. no doubt, they'll do a national tour but smaller cities could possibly miss out. hopefully, there's no repeat of the drama which unfolded this year in columbia when fans began rioting. you can keep your finger on the pulse by watching the metallica tour page. if they are touring in november, there'll hopefully be an official announcement soon as tickets will be extremely popular and it will be one of the huge music events of 2010 in australia. you can read the article about lars' interview slip here. the world magnetic tour has earnt metallica a whopping US$72million since 2006.
in other news, it's 2 weeks until justin bieber hits australian shores. he's been appearing on shows in the US and is rumoured to be shooting another video clip. he appeared on the late show with jimmy fallon the other night and is due to perform in skits with tina fey on saturday night live tomorrow (saturday). a lot of accomplished music artists double his age have yet to achieve the much-desired gig of SNL. will post links once they're available.

lollapalooza 2010 line-up announced // thursday, 8 april 2010 // |

there have been a stack of times in my life where i've wished i lived in america. now, with the lineup of lollapalooza 2010 announced, i wish for it even more. not that australia isn't great - but simply, we don't get so many good music acts and performers together all at once. so if you're from anywhere but america, you could be wondering "what the hell is lollapalooza?" sounds like something i could smoke, or see crazy animals if i take a bit of. basically, it's one of the most awesome music festivals which happen annually. rolling stone has announced the lineup which features legendary grungers soundgarden (with chris cornell), green day and lady gaga's entire monster ball tour. how excitement! the event goes for 3 days and runs across 5 stages, with about 70 acts. you can read a bit about the history of the event here. it takes place in chicago and will be there until 2018. i'd love to check it out - amongst the names already mentioned, there's MGMT, wolfmother, switchfoot, cut copy, cypress hill and a stack of other bands you would have heard of. though, i've already seen green day and lady gaga this year in perth, so it begs the question of whether it would be worth it. both though, were amazing shows. not to mention the rampant he/she-led semi-precious weapons will be appearing (you'll notice they're near the bottom of the list).

2010 white house easter egg roll wrap // tuesday, 6 april 2010 // |

i stayed up half the night watching the 2010 easter egg roll @ the white house live on the internet. what a disappointment! if you were a child there, you'd probably have a blast, but the crowd looked overly disappointed at everything that was going on. as reported the other day, it's an age old tradition in washington and this year wasn't any different. fun for the whole family, people win a lottery to get tickets and they go along and party on the white house lawn. the biggest drawcard of the day seemed to be justin bieber who performed 3 times throughout the day. in a 90-degree day in washington DC, the crowd looked like they didn't want to be there and everyone was boiling. though, the first lady was bustin' a move in the crowd, dancing to justin bieber. a few girls down the front were screaming, but apart from that, most of the crowd didn't show much emotion. the schedule ran a bit behind time, with performances delayed half an hour or so as it seems they didn't factor in stage setup time. justin bieber performed every two hours, with the first set containing his songs "one time," "u smile, i smile," a bit of a mash-up of michael jacksons "wanna be startin' somethin'" and lenny kraviz' "walk this way" as his dancers did a bit of a performance. then, biebs performed a drum solo, then took back to the stage for "baby." the next performance was the same with "u smile, i smile" replaced with "one less lonely girl" where he got a small girl out of the crowd on stage and sang to her and the third performance substituted "one less lonely girl" with "that should be me." biebs looked more tired and sweaty as time went on, telling everyone exactly how he felt saying "i'm hot and sweaty out here." he later posted on his twitter that he was so dehydrated and exhausted that he felt like passing out. though, afterwards, he hit up the NCAA final. the other acts of the day were mainly people reading stories to children.
one of the more hilarious aspects of the day was the children's group made famous on nickelodeon called "yo gabba gabba." you'd be forgiven for believing that they're on acid and have just fallen out of an imaginary spaceship. you have to take one look at the above photo and you'll be wondering "what the hell? is that even allowed?" well, apparently it is - and it's endorsed by the white house. they were out there on the stage singing dance songs for little kids with classics like "WHO WANTS TO GO TO THE PARTY? PARTY IN MY TUMMY!" and "EVERYONE GET YOUR SILLIES OUT!" interesting to say the least. there's something disturbing about anyone who dressed up like a giant red alien penis and has a dude in fluoro orange lycra next to them. check out the youtube video of the leader of yo gabba gabba reading to kids. it's quite funny.
photos from mtv.com. below are screen captures taken from bieber's 3rd and final performance taken from the live stream.
